POTENTIAL WINTER STORM ON TARGET LATE MONDAY, JANUARY 23, 2023 THROUGH TUESDAY, JANUARY 24, 2023...

A winter storm currently taking shape over the Pacific northwest is forecast to dive south into Arizona by Monday then shift east across New Mexico through Tuesday. There is still considerable uncertainty with the track of this winter storm as it crosses New Mexico late Monday through Tuesday. However, there is potential for significant snowfall accumulations across central and eastern New Mexico. Gusty east winds may develop within the Rio Grande Valley on Monday with gusts around 50 mph below canyons. Colder air moving into the region with gusty winds may generate blowing snow with reduced visibility, especially by Monday night. Folks planning travel across the region late Monday through Tuesday may encounter winter travel conditions.

Snowpacked and icy roadways are possible during the Tuesday morning commute, including portions of I-40, I-25, U.S. Highway 285, and U.S. Highway 60 within central and eastern NM. Stay tuned to the latest weather forecast and statements regarding this developing winter storm at weather.gov/abq or through your preferred media outlet.
