From January 25, 2023 post.
A big step toward creating a community-supported plan for potential trails in the Talpa Foothills begins later this week!
The Talpa Foothills Working Group, which is made up of a diverse group of community voices from the area, will have its first meeting this week at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26. It will be held at the Town of Taos’ Taoseño Room in Coronado Hall at 120 Civic Plaza Drive, Taos, NM, 87571.
The first meeting will review the working group process and charter, as well as develop a shared understanding of members' interests.
Following this meeting, working group members will work with their respective constituents and interest or geographic communities to develop new proposals for access and management in the Talpa Foothills area. Proposals will include clear descriptions of how and why they believe their proposals meet the identified interests and Forest Service definitions of success.
Meetings are open to public observation but not participation. The public can submit comments to working group members by contacting them directly, filling out a comment card at the meeting, attending an upcoming community feedback event, emailing them at talpatrailsfeedback@gmail.com or mailing a letter to Talpa Foothills Working Group, 208 Cruz Alta Rd., Taos, NM 87571.
Future meetings will occur throughout the winter and into the spring. The public may participate in two community feedback events, one in person and the other virtual.
