Press Release. (12-20-22/1100)
On Monday December 19th, 2022 at about 1400 hours Taos County Deputies, Fire/EMS, and NMDOT responded to a single vehicle fatal crash on US64E near mm 265 (Taos Canyon).
The semi-truck hauling logs was traveling west on the two-lane highway. As it entered into a sweeping left hand curve the vehicle apparently drifted onto the right hand shoulder and overturned on its passenger side. A road closure was necessary for several hours.
The only occupant was the driver; he is identified at 36 year old Daniel Barrone Jr. of Taos County. Mr. Barrone was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision.
“Based on our initial at-scene investigation we don’t believe excessive speed or impairment are factors in this crash. It may be that the investigation, once complete, will determine this to be a tragic accident, but we need to review all details before any final determination is made.”
