From November 22, 2022 post.
Fuelwood permittees have been hitting Forest Road 5 hard since our announcement last week! As of this morning, close to half of the wood had been removed, leaving an estimated 50 to 100 cords worth in the form of logs. The largest amount of wood is found at the end of the road, about 1.7 miles in. The wood is a mix of ponderosa, Engelman spruce, subalpine fir and Douglas fir.
Details
- The road remains snow-covered. All- or four-wheel drive is highly recommended, if not necessary
- Preserve the meadows by not driving out into them. Keep to immediate pullouts along the road.
- Forest Road 5 is located off Highway 64, west of Ange Fire. Check it out on this interactive map: https://www.fs.usda.gov/ivm/index.html?minx=-11732499...
