Carson National Forest Supervisor James Duran has named Chris Furr as the next acting deputy forest supervisor. Furr, a 22-year Forest Service veteran, arrived to the Forest today, replacing Andrea Jones, whose four-month temporary role ended Friday. A permanent selection for the position will be made soon.
Over the last four and a half years, Furr has served as the district ranger for the 1.3 million-acre Methow Valley Ranger District on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in Washington.
Prior to moving to Washington, he spent seven years on the Carson National Forest, both as the Tres Piedras district ranger and the forest natural resources staff officer.
“I love Northern New Mexico and appreciate the beauty of this landscape and the unique relationship people here have with these lands,” said Furr. “The part of the job I particularly enjoy is working with our partners and the public to solve complex land management issues, particularly landscape scale restoration. I am also excited to come back and work with both the communities and the Carson staff.”
Furr grew up in the southeast where he attended Mississippi State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in forest management.
Furr and his wife, Kathryn, who is also a former Carson employee, have been married for 16 years and currently live in Winthrop, WA, with their two dogs. He has temporarily relocated to Taos during the detail.
