Recreational Off-Road Vehicles

Just to remind everyone that comes to visit our great town.   ATV’s must be trailered to all trail heads, you can not ride them in town no exceptions.   Now to get all the key board warriors going.  Recreational off-road vehicles, ( ROV’s ) also known as side by sides, UTV’s can not be driving down Main Street.  They can not be driven west of 4K RV park on Hwy 38 towards Questa.  They can not be driven up or down Bobcat pass. The State of New Mexico has set these guidelines.   Now for all the people that are saying but mine is registered and i have a license plate from (insert your state here) so I can and you can not enforce that.   Here’s an example of yes we can.   In this state and your state they can and do set no truck routes.  This is a route that big commercial trucks can not drive on.  These trucks are registered and have license plates but they can’t drive down these streets/highways.  Well the same can go for ROV’s. The State of New Mexico has established by law and has designated Highway 38, also known as Main Street a no ROV route, between Caribel Trail at the west end of town and Jayhawks Trail on the east end of town.

Also here's a few other laws we enforce for ROV’s but not limited to; You can only operate an ROV in town between the hours of 8am- 8pm. All riders under the age of 18 must have on a helmet at all times and seat belts must be worn.  FYI helmet should also be worn while riding in the mountains, because it’s the law.
