Updated press release, July 27th, 2022 / 1300 hours
On the evening July 26th, 2022 the Taos County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Joshua Trujillo had died while being treated at UNM Hospital. Immediate arrangements were made for the Office of Medical Investigations to initiate their independent investigation. Based on the passing of Mr. Trujillo this case is now under investigation for Murder in the 1st degree. On Sunday July 23rd, 2022 Daniel Chavez was arrested in connection to the stabbing and remains incarcerated at the Adult Detention Center. “We are working closely with District Attorney Montoya and his staff to assure the investigation is completed in a timely manner and the appropriate charges are amended on the original charging documents.”
