A spot fire crossed Pecos River and is moving northwest, approximately one mile north of Beatty’s Cabin. The fire is moving into the wilderness with dense stands of dead trees. The fire does not currently pose a threat to structures or communities. However, there is a noticeable column developing, so smoke will be highly visible from Taos, Penasco, Angel Fire and nearby communities. Residents will see an increase in aviation support in those areas as helicopters are currently being used to drop water and assist firefighters. A change in weather may help firefighters in the coming days.
