Quay County is the latest county to pass a resolution opposing ‘red flag’ laws and county officials feel that the laws infringe on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, according to KRQE News.
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed a bill in February which would give law enforcement the right to take citizen's guns away without due process.
Sheriffs across the state say the laws are unconstitutional and unenforceable, reported KRQE News.
The Otero County Board of Commissioners recently passed a resolution that welcomes the red flag laws in their county. Grisham announced that any official not willing to enforce the red flag laws should resign.
Sheriffs indicated they will fight the law in the courts.
These so-called red flag laws are a growing trend across the nation, reported the Daily Signal with the laws now enacted in 18 states. Many sheriffs and other law enforcement authorities have come out in opposition to the law.
