Even after a mistake left a bond question off of the ballot for more than 50 voters, property taxes involving the new degree offerings at Northern New Mexico College will still be assessed in 2020, the Santa Fe New Mexican reported.
Those who saw the bond question on the ballot voted to approve the new property tax, the newspaper reported. The newspaper said that even if the 54 residents who didn't receive the question had voted no, it would not have changed the outcome of the vote.
The tax is expected to generate $2.4 million annually for the school.
The tax will cost a homeowner with a property assessed at $200,000 about $133 a year in taxes because the cost averages out to $2 for every $1,000 of taxable property value, according to the newspaper.
The money will be used to expand the school's electrician program, make sure transportation is available for students traveling from high school to the college's campuses and establish programs for plumbing and pipe fitting, the newspaper reported.
